Dr. Melody Gayheart

I was first introduced to veterinary medicine while working with horses growing up, watching the ambulatory vet come out a few times a year to do exams, treat laminitis, etc. I knew I wanted to be just like them! I have always been an animal lover, but I also love how rewarding it is to help people by helping their pets/livestock. Each day is a new and exciting adventure and keeps me learning and growing.

I started working in veterinary clinics during high school, working in the kennels, until I confirmed what I wanted to do. For undergraduate, I went to Murray State University, where I completed the pre-vet track and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. I then applied to Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where I did an additional 4 years working to obtain my DVM and graduated in May 2023.

During vet school, I enjoyed being a part of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Veterinary Business Management Association (VBMA) and Auburn’s student chapter of the American Veterinary Association (SAVMA). Professionally, I am interested in small animal and large animal internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology and I have also surprisingly liked emergency medicine during my time here. During my free time, I can be found doing anything outdoors, such as hiking and swimming at Rough River with my dog Huck. I also enjoy spending time with friends, family, and taking weekend road trips.
